Should you Wear a Sweatshirt to Burn More Calories?

When you work out what are you wearing is really important. The attire and gear can help you keep you comfortable. In some cases, it is important to the exercise you are doing like good shoes for running. Wearing a xxxtentacion sweatshirt while exercising to promote extra calorie burn has merit, but it needs to be taken into consideration with its benefits and possible health concerns.

The fabric of the sweatshirt acts as insulation to the body that causes the heart rate to increase  and blood to circulate  faster in attempt  to cool your body temperature down. We wish burning more calories was as simple as sweating in a sweatshirt, but it is not. According to a research, the sweat rate during the exercise has little to no effect on the number of calories you burn or the amount of fat you lose. Calories are burned only by the output of energy so  even if your body temperature  may be warmer  in a sweatshirt, the body doesn’t  necessarily need to work harder  to output the same amount of work

Heat Exhaustion

Heat exhaustion occurs when the body temperature rises and the body is unable to keep up. It is prone to happen when coupled with intense physical activity. If you are working out in a sweatshirt, you can encourage heat exhaustion or a serious condition like heat stroke. If you are running with a sweatshirt and get too hot, take it off immediately. Always stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water while running.

Heart Rate

The heart rate increases when you run to supply the body’s muscles with an adequate supply of oxygen enriched blood. The faster the heart beats, the more energy is required so more calories are burned. If you wear sweatshirt, the body temperature increases, circulation and heart rate increases to maintain the body temperature. You may burn more calories because of increase in heart rate while wearing a sweatshirt.

Sweating Myth

There is a myth that wearing additional layers of clothes helps you to lose weight faster as you sweat more. If you wear a sweatshirt, it will make you sweat more. Increased sweating indirectly burns calories through increased heart rate and the maximum of weight is lost through sweating is water weight. Athletes and wrestlers who attempt to lose a significant amount of weight in a short amount of time exercise to lose water weight. This water weight loss is temporary and it is not a healthy and sustainable form of weight loss.

The amount of calories you burn by running is contingent on two factors i.e.  duration and intensity. You will burn calories faster at higher heart rates. More intense activities are not as sustainable. Low intensity jogging or walking can help you to burn more calories than running if you do it for a long time. Sweatshirts will increase the intensity of your exercise and may limit the duration severely that it negates the sweatshirts calorie burning benefits.

If you feel the need to wear a sweatshirt, just keep yourself hydrated than normal and get electrolytes in the body. If you run in the winter, get out of sweaty clothes promptly after the run.  Now that you have all of the need-to-know information when it comes to working out in sweatshirts, the decision is up to you. With new fabric and clothing technology on the market for both men and women, working out in sweaters is safer and more fashionable than ever before.
